Advent running – completed!

Happy New Year everyone. I promised that I would give you an update on my Advent Running experience. Well, I completed it!! I did find that it got easier over the weeks and luckily I didn’t run into any injury problems. It became second nature to go for a run in the dark after getting home from a long day at work and I found the half an hour run was pretty good for stress relief. I got myself a great head torch and made full use of my reflective running gear that is normally only useful on foggy or dark rainy days. As Christmas day was a Friday it was one of my longer runs – well I say longer, it was only 4.4 miles but it gave me enough calories for the christmas pudding and ice cream!!

Surprisingly/annoyingly I haven’t lost any more weight 🙁 – I think maybe that is because my legs have become so strong and muscular and perhaps I was eating more chocolates due to the stockpile we had at work this month!! I definitely felt fitter as the month went on though and now I feel that once I stop eating Christmas rubbish I will be in great shape for 2016!!

I was tempted to go on and run for the whole of December but I really needed to let my body recover a little so I took December 26th off and am now back to my usual 3 runs a week. I am determined to increase my mileage this year – I ran 615 miles in 2015 which was an increase on 2014 when I only managed 363 miles due to several niggling injuries. Back in 2012 when I was at my fittest and leanest I ran 853 miles – lets hope I can remain injury free and perhaps I can get up to nearer 800 miles this year.

Did you compete the advent run challenge? Have you just started running for the first time ever? Do you have a mileage goal for 2016?

Congratulations on this great effort! I’m very impressed with your distance for the year. I can relate to not losing any weight and also think that I have bulked up my muscles from my running, walking, riding and gym work. I;m glad you feel fitter though! All the best for your 2016 runs 🙂

Thanks Debbie, I now have to buckle down and lose a couple of kilos – the Christmas food is all gone so there’s no excuse:-)
